Sunken trees are evident in the shallows of Lake Argyle, a man made lake in the east Kimberley, eight miles inland from the Joseph Bonarparte Gulf. The Agyle Dam is Australia's second largest man-make lake by volume. The Ord River is the main body of water flowing into the dam, with secondary flow from the Bow River and other tributaries. Construction of the dam was finished in 1971 and the dam was opened in 1972.
