Images of the boab tree (Adansonia gregorii). Found only in Australia, Africa, Madagasar and the Arabian Peninsula, the boab belongs to the Malvaceae family.
Easily recognised by their swollen trunk and bottle like appearance, they gain an average height of 9-12m and can be up to 27m in circumference. Most parts of the boabs are edible, and the magnificent creamy flowers have a delicate fragrance. Boabs are deciduous; bare for most of the dry season, and producing leaves and flowers only in the build-up and the wet.
